Week 1
Short post today, folks... Hung out at my son's Tae Kwon Do class today for a bit... Tons of fun!
Sweat 1-2 wasn't too intense today, other than my legs getting week towards the second circuit of knee lifts... I'm hoping that goes away soon. I want my muscles there with me so I can power through the workout. The abs workout is still amazing and I really feel it afterwards... I'm not sore at all though, which I kind of miss... lol Pretty sad to be missing being sore... I guess if I am sore that means I'm really making gains... =)
As far as my nutrition is going, the food is still excellent. I am only having one starchy carb a day... Either at breakfast or lunch... Avoiding them all together at dinner. So far I really haven't experienced any cravings... I really haven't felt this focused about exercise and diet before... Very encouraging.
My BowFlex weights still haven't shown up yet so I will be using the bands again... The days are really flying by, exercise-wise... I can't wait to be moving on to P90X... That's about it for now...
Signing off...
Follow me while I transform from an overweight, tired unfit guy to a ripped, in shape, lets go for a ten mile run kind of guy. And it's only going to take me six months... It's time to get the six pack results I want...

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 3
Week 1
I really hate it when I wake up 20 minutes before my alarm goes off... Five minutes okay... One minute, awesome... But 20? And of course I had to think about my workout... =) So I pretty much laid there waiting for my clock to go off. Which is okay... I was awake and ready to go...
Today's workout was interesting. I knew the routine, so no surprises there. The amazing thing is that I keep forgetting its actually 30 minutes. It seriously flies by. I was able to push myself alot more today, which is great. I like feeling like I am just getting that last rep done, or pushing out that last curl. I am waiting on the BowFlex 552 dumbbells to arrive, which will really take up a notch. The bands are awesome for traveling, but if I have the opportunity to use free weights, I'm going to choose them every time.
Since this is my first week working out in the morning I'm still getting used to having my evenings open. Usually by the time I got home and worked out it was well beyond our normal dinner time and next thing you know, it's time for bed... So working out in the morning is really allowing me to spend more time with the kids and my wife...
Really excited about Sweat 1-2 tomorrow...
Until then... =)

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 2...
Week 1
Howdy all! Happy Memorial Day!!
Well, I was feeling very tired when I woke up this morning.. Sluggish in fact... Luckily my wife was getting up with me so there was no dilly dallying going on. =)
I will be getting up before work to do this workout so its good to see how I will react to the workout when I'm still sleepy. It wasn't that bad at all actually. I was slow at first but the Power Yoga really gets you heated up quickly. I was really surprised by how much muscle I was working on the cardio day. My chest felt all pumped up by the time I got finished. My legs are my weakest area right now (second to abs) and I did struggle with some of the leg phases, but I did not give in. I would stop and let the burn go down for a few seconds and drop back in.
I really like how Tony Horton encourages you to take it at your own pace. That really helps when I have a muscle in fatigue.
All in all I am still very excited with the program and even more excited that my wife is doing it with me. It REALLY helps to have a partner that is motivated with you.
Oh, and I dropped a half pound overnight... Say hello to 190!
Oh and a completely off topic, side note... I wanted to share an interesting thought that I had yesterday after a walk... Growing up Memorial Day was always a BBQ, have fun outside, hang out with friends kind of a day... What I realized last night, especially in recent years, that this day isn't that kind of day for someone who lost a loved one in a war... So, I think when we are at the BBQ or swimming in the pool, we should remember that there are families that are suffering today remembering their lost ones... wishing that they were here with them...

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 1
Week 1
Wow... lol That's about all I can say... I got a late start today since my kids were sick and my wife and I had to go to two different services at Church. After she got back though I popped in the DVD and was ready... In my excitement I didn't pay attention and I started the Sweat 1-2 program... About 25 minutes in I realized that I was doing the wrong work out! LOL So I switched over to the strength workout, Sculpt 1-2 and completed it and the Ab Ripper 100.
I know I kind of overdid it but it was so much fun I couldn't stop. I'm really surprised by how smoothly the routine went. I was never bored and I never felt like I couldn't keep up. I did have to take a rest until I realized that Tony Horton gives you a break AND takes time for stretching... a huge bonus since I can keep up most of the time as long as I have a few seconds to let my muscles stop burning...
Another huge feature was the timers in the lower right hand corner.. Being able to keep track of how much time I had left to push and be able to know how much total time left really helped me stay in the game. In some workout videos I'd feel like I'd be doing exercise forever and really didn't have a goal line to keep my eye one... Very cool.
All in all I'm VERY happy that I started the program and the nutrition program is amazing... the last diet I was on restricted all carbs... not even good ones... No fruit? Are you kidding me? Today I had a slice of whole grain toast, two eggs sunny side up and a strawberry protein shake... Compared to my last diet that is a breakfast for a king...
I also lost a pound since yesterday, which doesn't hurt either. =)
Can't wait for tomorrow...

Day before day one?!?
The beginning...
Well, here I am... Officially about to begin my new lifestyle of health and fitness. I've been struggling with weight for the last few years and with not eating the right foods. I typically don't feel well, most of the time. I'm weak, over-tired, crabby... Basically an unhealthy person not happy about being unhealthy.
Then, I discovered something amazing... I was surfing YouTube one night (who doesn't) and I came across video after video of people who looked just like me... well... used to look just like me... So you had a before and after picture on the page and a brief story about their progress... The picture on the left was of a generally unhappy looking person with some extra weight... But the picture on the right? Oh, my goodness... Incredible! I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing... People who had never had abs, (myself included), sporting a six pack.. or an eight pack... How was this possible?
It wasn't just one video either... it was page after page after page of people showing the results they had had with their workout program. I HAD to find out what they were doing. Most of the videos linked you to an info page about BeachBody's P90X. I had heard about this workout routine but hadn't really considered it since it looked a little intimidating. I mean, come on, if you see people built like that, you assume they are probably crazy people... (No offense P90X people!)
One video I found really hit home... It was a married couple that had gone through Power 90, which is the pre-P90X workout, and had incredible results. I think I related to them because my wife and I were in a similar situation. We were out of shape, and wanted to be in shape... A common desire in America...
After reading as much as I could, I settled on the Power 90 program and now there is no looking back. I have taken my before photos, (which I will reveal as I go) and taken all of my measurements and did my grocery shopping.
Tomorrow I start my workout program with BeachBody's Power 90 and I hope you all join me on the journey... I'm really excited about what I can accomplish in these next few months... I want to lose weight, gain muscle and get that six pack... Yes, the same ones the crazy people have. (No offense! =)
If I hadn't gotten all of the inspiration from the videos and fellow BeachBody people I don't think I would have taken this journey... Many thanks to them for helping me start...
I hope my progess is inspiration to anyone else that was like me... Tired of being out of shape and unhealthy and not sure what to do to fix it...
Lets get shredded....
