I REALLY liked the nutrition plan that came with the Power 90 Home Boot Camp. It will give you some awesome recipes and ideas for some surprisingly delicious meals. Being used to other diets I honestly didn't expect to see a breakfast with two poached eggs and toast... =) Awesome, huh? So make sure to read and re-read the Nutrition guide before you get started with your Power 90 program. Nutrition is 80% of fitness and if you go into the exercise program without properly planning your meals and snacks you won't see the incredible results that you want to see.
I kept my calories at 1500 a day with a 50/30/20 ratio. 50% of the 1500 calories was protein, 30% in carbs and 20% in fat. This actually made for some excellent meals and snacks.
Here is an example of what I ate every day...
Breakfast: Shakeology with 2 Scoops of Optimum Whey Protein & PB2
Mid-Morning Snack: 1/2 Service of Raw Almonds (12-14)
Lunch: Whole Grain Pita Pocket with 6 slices of Deli Turkey, 1 oz. of Low Fat Pepper Jack & Romaine Lettuce & an Apple
Mid-Afternoon Snack: 3 Slices of Deli Turkey & 1 Cup of Mixed Berries (Strawberries, blueberries & blackberries)
Dinner: 6-8 oz of Chicken, steak or fish. Two cups of steamed veggies (usually broccoli and cauliflower) and 1/2 Sweet Potato
Evening Snack: Protein shake (1 scoop)
This gave me enough variety that I didn't get bored with what I ate and I never felt hungry or full. So it was perfect and I had alot of energy.
I "never" cheated. Well actually... I haven't cheated yet. =) It may come to a time where I may, but I do encourage you to stick to your nutrition plan. Don't have any cheat days. If you HAVE to, enjoy a cheat meal once in a while, but keep it to a minimum. Maybe once or twice a month, tops. I have been so excited with the Power 90 program and Shakeology that I haven't been tempted to cheat at all. I have had a few days that I was craving carbs, but it wasn't overwhelming and I didn't give in.
Planning and focus is key. We spend weeks and months planning vacations, but how often do we plan things that REALLY matter, like our health? Take the time to prepare for your new life. Get rid of that bad food in the cupboard. Go shopping for new healthy food. Get those supplements and be ready for your Day 1. It made SUCH a huge difference for me. I planned almost two weeks to do this program and I'm so glad I did. It has paid off ten fold.
Don't make the mistake of just doing the exercise and not starting to change your lifestyle. If you do, you won't be happy with the results AND you won't have the energy and focus to make it through your routine. Imagine eating at a buffet and then going to do a workout. Know how you'd feel? That's what I mean. =)
Follow me while I transform from an overweight, tired unfit guy to a ripped, in shape, lets go for a ten mile run kind of guy. And it's only going to take me six months... It's time to get the six pack results I want...

Power 90 - Week 3, Day 2
Wow folks, sorry for missing yesterday! I am 100% focused on my site right now. Its a work in progress, but you promise to be nice I'll show it to you. =) Same address as before. www.sixpackresults.com
I'm a little shaky on the web work but I'm doing ALOT of reading so I hope to have it up to Bryan May standards soon. ;-) If you all have any suggestions or comments, I would be most appreciative!
Week 3 is going GREAT! I started out very well yesterday with Sculpt 1-2 and Sweat 1-2 was awesome. I was really able to push myself hard and not need to rest between sets like I have before. I'm also doing 12 reps instead of 10 on the Ab Ripper 100... That makes a BIG difference. I've never been so happy to stretch than after that exercise series.
I'm sorry this is so short, everyone. It may be short for a while till I have my site where I want it. Feel free to stop by and check it out. Take care all!

Power 90 - Week 2, Day 6! End of week 2...
It's hard to believe its been two weeks of Power 90 already. It feels like I just started this workout. I was actually a bit sluggish this morning during Sweat 1-2 but I felt like I was sticking with Tony pretty well. My legs are still my weak point. I feel a TON more flexible though. I can pull my head to my knee on the hamstring stretches... Which I haven't been able to do since my MMA classes... I'll have to admit that on Fridays I'm glad to know that I get a rest day right after...
Again, I am amazed by how pleasant I feel after drinking my Shakeology... AND how much energy I have. The rush is really amazing. I am still adding my one scoop of strawberry whey protein and two tablespoons of PB2. I will probably get chocolate whey next time since the strawberry is not my favorite flavor of whey protein. I thought that maybe I would be more hungry mid morning since I was only drinking Shakeology for breakfast, but not at all. I feel full and satisfied was surprised when I realized it was snack time. =)
I think the combination of exercise, nutrition and supplements have really helped me feel like I'm 10 years younger. It's a really strong motivator for me. I remember how I felt after fast food and a few light beers. There is no comparison. I always wondered why the people who were in shape were so outgoing and enthusiastic... lol (You know the type I am talking about.) Now I think I understand. A greater passion for life because you are experiencing more of it. And its of a higher quality. I commit to myself every day that those fast food, snacks and beer days are over.
Well, tomorrow should be a blast. It's my 6 year anniversary! I am going out to eat but I'm not too worried. Alot of places have very good grilled chicken dinners with steamed veggies these days. No plans on cheating for this guy. =)
I'm also taking my Day 15 measurements, weight and pictures so that should be cool. I'm still a bit apprehensive about posting anything yet until I have the results I want. We'll see though..
I will try to check in tomorrow. Happy Friday All!
Oh, and don't watch this video... You've been warned...

Power 90 - Week 2, Day 5
One more day and week two is under my belt... Or should I say, inside my belt. =)
So today I decided to up my weights this morning for Sculpt 1-2 and that made a BIG difference. I was really exhausted at the end of the work. Which I never experienced with the bands. I also wasn't able to finish the 21's all the way through my biceps were burning so hard. It really felt good to be lifting weights again.
I was also very interested to see if I felt that same Shakeology rush I had felt the day before. And again, much to my surprise, I had that same euphoric, lets go and get this done vibe. Tons of energy and an all around good feeling. I'm VERY happy I felt that way again. Today was a bit more stressful than yesterday but I still have that positive feeling carry me through. I also tried my Shakeology with PB2 powered peanut butter and protein powder and wow, the reviews were right. It really DOES take a like Reese's Peanut butter Cups. That was another big surprise.
One more day and week two is over... It feels like I've been doing the workout for a while, but it also feels like these last two weeks flew by. I'm really excited about that. I want to hurry to the end. =) I'll be taking Day 15 pictures just for fun. I'll put those up shortly with one or two of my before pictures. I want to hold all of them till the end to really show how far I've come in such a short time. Very exciting!
That's it for this evening.. take care.

Power 90 - Week 2, Day 4 (Day of the Shakeology...)
Cardio this morning went exceptionally well. I was tired and sluggish getting up but once I started moving I felt VERY in control. Usually my legs give out during the knee lifts but today I was with it the whole way. Felt very good not to be struggling but to be able to give that extra burst of power.
Today was very interesting. I have to say I am surprised. Pleasantly so, of course. In fact, I'm very happy I was surprised. =) After my Sweat 1-2 I popped open my bag of Shakeology and threw it in the blender with two scoops of strawberry whey protein and two handfuls of ice. Poured it in a glass and had to take a picture... (see below) I'll admit I was almost afraid to taste it. LOL I didn't want the first taste to be all, "whatever, its okay." I couldn't believe how rich and delicious it was. Honestly. It had such a rich, chocolatey flavor that I didn't notice the strawberry protein at all. The ice really gave it a milkshake quality. Since I've been restricting my sweets, this was a welcomed experience. It was not in my favorite glass for long...
But, it doesn't stop there. I hurried up and jumped in the shower and headed to work. And I will have to say that I don't think I've felt THAT good before in a long time. I felt energetic, positive, relaxed and charged up. I really felt good. I am totally giving credit to the Shakeology on this one. I had a pretty routine day, but it was how I felt that really made it unique. I haven't had that energy at work before in a long time.
I am really interested to see how it will go tomorrow. I am hoping that it wasn't just a fluke. From the reviews that I have ready, it isn't... but of course, I have to see for myself. =) I will give a full report tomorrow about that and about my dumbbell weight increase for Sculpt 1-2. This workout and nutrition program is really changing my life. It started slow but its accelerating now. I can't wait to see where I end up.
Nighty night...

Power 90 - Week 2, Day 3 (My Shakeology is here!!!)
Sculpt 1-2 today went very well. I didn't up my weights yet since I'm still worried I might hurt my shoulder... Although I didn't feel like I pushed myself as much as I would have liked, so I may up them tomorrow. I'm getting the routine down now so I don't have to check the video as much. I do my thing and listen for Tony to prompt me to the next move.
I guess I had a mild case of "impatience" today. =) My wife has been working out for a longer than I and she is showing incredible results. And well, I guess I want that too. =) I know I have to do the work to earn it and I know that nothing good comes easy or quickly. But still. =) I want to be ripped... NOW!
I think that is why I'm so excited about the organization of this workout. I know that tomorrow I'll get to do another fun workout and to keep moving towards the end goal. When I would try to put my own workouts together they would get routine and boring and eventually I'd start making excuses not to go. Don't want to find my keys, don't feel like going down, its too early, its too late, I'm tired, I'll do more tomorrow... No more!
I have no more excuses because I won't allow them to even enter into my mind. Yes, I've been tired when I wake up and yes I've felt edgy like I couldn't finish my workout, but I stuck to it and even if it wasn't my best, I still gave it. And in a way that made it my best. Because me working out when I don't feel like it is still bringing it. AND its me not giving into my weaknesses.
On a very exciting note, my Shakeology finally arrived today. YAY! I've been really looking forward to it. I'm going to use it as a meal replacement in the morning so tomorrow will be my first time, if you will. =) I have some of my unboxing pictures below. My PB2 will be here tomorrow afternoon and Em is going to pick up some almond milk so I should be rocking by Thursday. More about that tomorrow!
All in all it was a good day and even though I am pretty tired, I feel ready and excited for my cardio day with Sweat 1-2...
Until then... =)

Power 90 - Week 2, Day 1
Week 2!
Amazing! Adding the Bowflex 552 weights REALLY changed this workout... The bands were great to start and would be invaluable if I was traveling... But WOW, did the weights bring up the level on Sculpt 1-2 a few notches...
I felt like I was really struggling to finish those reps... I stuck to 8-10 on a lower weight since it was my first time... I didn't want to overdue it and hurt myself... After I got finished I felt very pumped up... more than I ever had with the bands. So if you are considering doing the Power 90 workout make sure to get weights if you want to make quicker progress and gain muscle quickly.
I still have not received my Shakeology... Uggg. =) I really wanted to try it this weekend... Hopefully I will have it tomorrow! I've been making protein shakes with mixed berries or bananas, which really helps enhance the flavor. The thicker it is too, the easier it is to drink. Making a protein shake too watery is kind of gross in my opinion. So invest in a blender... you will be amazed at how a few berries and ice can make a normal protein shake into a dessert.
Well, that is all for today. Really looking forward to Sweat 1-2 tomorrow!
Signing off, all...

Power 90 - Day 7... Ahhhh, rest... =)
Today was my rest day... So did that mean I laid in bed all day?... NO! In fact, I had very little rest... =)
I went for an hour walk this morning... about 4 miles an hour... so not too intense...
Today was awesome because I was down to 188... which I haven't been that low in months...
Since I was back in the 180's, I had set up a goal award to get new clothing... So I went and bought some new shoes and workout clothes... Man it felt good to buy new clothes that fit better...
I even went out to eat at Jason's Deli... The lunch was AWESOME and it was only 400 calories... They had a Turkey Wrap with steamed veggies and I drank tea without sugar... I did not envy my mom's pasta, or my dad's sandwich... So I'm glad I survived without ANY temptations at the restaurant...
My Bowflex weights are in so Sculpt 1-2 tomorrow should be interesting. In a good way. =) I'm hoping it will be more intense, muscle wise... I like the feeling of reaching muscle failure...
Anyways, that's about it for today... Until tomorrow

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 6... End of week 1!
Week 1 - Complete!
Wow, I can hardly believe that my first week is over already. Sweat 1-2 this morning was still challenging but I felt much more comfortable with the routine. I'm definitely not sore anymore, but I do feel great the rest of the day... I think that's what is so incredible about exercising and eating right... I feel GOOD all day long... Not just, weekend in San Diego good, but two weeks in the French Riviera Good. I had forgotten how it feels to be getting into shape and eating well... So easy to forget when I'm stagnate and eating junk... =)
I thought my Shakeology was coming today but the post office let me down... If I'm lucky I'll have it tomorrow, but worst case scenario I should have it Tuesday.
Well, not much else going on... I'm about four days from taking my first progress picture... So that will be interesting... I'm hoping its significant... I think it will be. =)
Have a great weekend all... will check in tomorrow or Sunday.
Lata!

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 5! Day before Shakeology!
Week 1
Sculpt 1-2 went very well this morning. Really felt pumped up afterwards and I was able to push through all of the push ups. My chest and triceps were really tight and pumped up... I had forgotten how great that felt...
Nutrition-wise I am sticking around 1300-1500 calories so I am not craving anything but I don't feel like I am over eating either. I get my Shakeology in tomorrow, which is VERY exciting. I've heard and read so many great things about it. I also ordered some PB2 tonight so I can't wait for that to show up either. =)
Speaking of supplements, right now I am taking a multi-vitamin and Omega 3's. I plan on taking creatine when I move into P90X but for now I didn't want to load up and take on too much water.
I'm not feeling like I'm dominating the workout, but I feel like I may be ready to move on to phases 3-4 in a week or two... When my free weights show up though that may change a bit... Will keep you posted. =)
One more day to week one and then a rest day on Saturday... I may sneak in some cardio but nothing serious...
Until tomorrow...

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 4
Week 1
Short post today, folks... Hung out at my son's Tae Kwon Do class today for a bit... Tons of fun!
Sweat 1-2 wasn't too intense today, other than my legs getting week towards the second circuit of knee lifts... I'm hoping that goes away soon. I want my muscles there with me so I can power through the workout. The abs workout is still amazing and I really feel it afterwards... I'm not sore at all though, which I kind of miss... lol Pretty sad to be missing being sore... I guess if I am sore that means I'm really making gains... =)
As far as my nutrition is going, the food is still excellent. I am only having one starchy carb a day... Either at breakfast or lunch... Avoiding them all together at dinner. So far I really haven't experienced any cravings... I really haven't felt this focused about exercise and diet before... Very encouraging.
My BowFlex weights still haven't shown up yet so I will be using the bands again... The days are really flying by, exercise-wise... I can't wait to be moving on to P90X... That's about it for now...

I really hate it when I wake up 20 minutes before my alarm goes off... Five minutes okay... One minute, awesome... But 20? And of course I had to think about my workout... =) So I pretty much laid there waiting for my clock to go off. Which is okay... I was awake and ready to go...
Today's workout was interesting. I knew the routine, so no surprises there. The amazing thing is that I keep forgetting its actually 30 minutes. It seriously flies by. I was able to push myself alot more today, which is great. I like feeling like I am just getting that last rep done, or pushing out that last curl. I am waiting on the BowFlex 552 dumbbells to arrive, which will really take up a notch. The bands are awesome for traveling, but if I have the opportunity to use free weights, I'm going to choose them every time.
Since this is my first week working out in the morning I'm still getting used to having my evenings open. Usually by the time I got home and worked out it was well beyond our normal dinner time and next thing you know, it's time for bed... So working out in the morning is really allowing me to spend more time with the kids and my wife...
Really excited about Sweat 1-2 tomorrow...
Until then... =)

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 2...
Week 1
Howdy all! Happy Memorial Day!!
Well, I was feeling very tired when I woke up this morning.. Sluggish in fact... Luckily my wife was getting up with me so there was no dilly dallying going on. =)
I will be getting up before work to do this workout so its good to see how I will react to the workout when I'm still sleepy. It wasn't that bad at all actually. I was slow at first but the Power Yoga really gets you heated up quickly. I was really surprised by how much muscle I was working on the cardio day. My chest felt all pumped up by the time I got finished. My legs are my weakest area right now (second to abs) and I did struggle with some of the leg phases, but I did not give in. I would stop and let the burn go down for a few seconds and drop back in.
I really like how Tony Horton encourages you to take it at your own pace. That really helps when I have a muscle in fatigue.
All in all I am still very excited with the program and even more excited that my wife is doing it with me. It REALLY helps to have a partner that is motivated with you.
Oh, and I dropped a half pound overnight... Say hello to 190!
Oh and a completely off topic, side note... I wanted to share an interesting thought that I had yesterday after a walk... Growing up Memorial Day was always a BBQ, have fun outside, hang out with friends kind of a day... What I realized last night, especially in recent years, that this day isn't that kind of day for someone who lost a loved one in a war... So, I think when we are at the BBQ or swimming in the pool, we should remember that there are families that are suffering today remembering their lost ones... wishing that they were here with them...
Signing off...

Power 90 - Week 1, Day 1
Week 1
Wow... lol That's about all I can say... I got a late start today since my kids were sick and my wife and I had to go to two different services at Church. After she got back though I popped in the DVD and was ready... In my excitement I didn't pay attention and I started the Sweat 1-2 program... About 25 minutes in I realized that I was doing the wrong work out! LOL So I switched over to the strength workout, Sculpt 1-2 and completed it and the Ab Ripper 100.
I know I kind of overdid it but it was so much fun I couldn't stop. I'm really surprised by how smoothly the routine went. I was never bored and I never felt like I couldn't keep up. I did have to take a rest until I realized that Tony Horton gives you a break AND takes time for stretching... a huge bonus since I can keep up most of the time as long as I have a few seconds to let my muscles stop burning...
Another huge feature was the timers in the lower right hand corner.. Being able to keep track of how much time I had left to push and be able to know how much total time left really helped me stay in the game. In some workout videos I'd feel like I'd be doing exercise forever and really didn't have a goal line to keep my eye one... Very cool.
All in all I'm VERY happy that I started the program and the nutrition program is amazing... the last diet I was on restricted all carbs... not even good ones... No fruit? Are you kidding me? Today I had a slice of whole grain toast, two eggs sunny side up and a strawberry protein shake... Compared to my last diet that is a breakfast for a king...
I also lost a pound since yesterday, which doesn't hurt either. =)
Can't wait for tomorrow...

Day before day one?!?
The beginning...
Well, here I am... Officially about to begin my new lifestyle of health and fitness. I've been struggling with weight for the last few years and with not eating the right foods. I typically don't feel well, most of the time. I'm weak, over-tired, crabby... Basically an unhealthy person not happy about being unhealthy.
Then, I discovered something amazing... I was surfing YouTube one night (who doesn't) and I came across video after video of people who looked just like me... well... used to look just like me... So you had a before and after picture on the page and a brief story about their progress... The picture on the left was of a generally unhappy looking person with some extra weight... But the picture on the right? Oh, my goodness... Incredible! I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing... People who had never had abs, (myself included), sporting a six pack.. or an eight pack... How was this possible?
It wasn't just one video either... it was page after page after page of people showing the results they had had with their workout program. I HAD to find out what they were doing. Most of the videos linked you to an info page about BeachBody's P90X. I had heard about this workout routine but hadn't really considered it since it looked a little intimidating. I mean, come on, if you see people built like that, you assume they are probably crazy people... (No offense P90X people!)
One video I found really hit home... It was a married couple that had gone through Power 90, which is the pre-P90X workout, and had incredible results. I think I related to them because my wife and I were in a similar situation. We were out of shape, and wanted to be in shape... A common desire in America...
After reading as much as I could, I settled on the Power 90 program and now there is no looking back. I have taken my before photos, (which I will reveal as I go) and taken all of my measurements and did my grocery shopping.
Tomorrow I start my workout program with BeachBody's Power 90 and I hope you all join me on the journey... I'm really excited about what I can accomplish in these next few months... I want to lose weight, gain muscle and get that six pack... Yes, the same ones the crazy people have. (No offense! =)
If I hadn't gotten all of the inspiration from the videos and fellow BeachBody people I don't think I would have taken this journey... Many thanks to them for helping me start...
I hope my progess is inspiration to anyone else that was like me... Tired of being out of shape and unhealthy and not sure what to do to fix it...
Lets get shredded....
